For the Dreamers and the Doers

As a child, my imagination was my playground - I could transport myself to far-off adventures and vividly picture every detail of the worlds I created. That same imagination has stayed with me into adulthood, helping me envision my future desires. I eagerly lean in and listen whenever others share their aspirations and dreams. So, when a close friend suggested that we plan an adventure to celebrate a milestone birthday together a few years ago, I was immediately all ears.

Even though it was still years away, we began dreaming about a holiday in Melbourne, weaving plans into our conversations whenever we met. Our initial idea took shape when Queen Elizabeth was the reigning monarch and before we could have imagined navigating a pandemic or enduring lockdowns. Our dream stayed alive for a while through casual chats, but a couple of years ago, we decided to take action. We each started regularly setting aside a little extra money to cover travel expenses. Then, we settled on a date, and earlier this year, we finalised our flights and accommodation bookings.

This month, we embarked on our long-awaited adventure. This wasn’t our first trip together; our shared journeys began in our teenage years exploring Aotearoa New Zealand, continued with a trip to Queensland in our early twenties, and included a memorable month travelling around the United Kingdom in our mid-twenties, courtesy of British Rail.

It seems we still possess a remarkable talent for shopping, laughing, indulging in good food and drinks, and occasionally getting lost on public transport in a new city. It is difficult to put into words the joy and freedom we felt wandering Melbourne’s laneways and exploring her leafy streets. This year has brought its share of challenging moments for us both. Our time in Melbourne was the realisation of a dream and also a much-needed exhale.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity and means that made this trip possible. I also recognise that none of it would have come to fruition without first daring to dream and then taking action to bring that dream to life. Turning our dreams into reality requires more than imagination—it calls for intentional effort and doing.

Our dreams are as unique and diverse as we are. You might dream of strengthening meaningful relationships, excelling in your career, starting a business, or making an impact in your community. Maybe your heart is drawn to furthering your education, exploring a creative passion, or focusing on your well-being. Whatever your dreams, the ability to imagine a different future doesn’t have to fade with childhood—it’s a gift we carry into every stage of life.

Every great journey begins with a dream—and it grows into reality when we take intentional steps and commit to the work of making it happen.

What dream do you quietly hold but have yet to voice?

What small spark of an idea is stirring within you?

What vision do you have for your future?

I love supporting my clients in realising their dreams by creating action plans with achievable steps. If you have a dream and aren’t sure how to get started, let’s connect. I’d love to guide you in bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be, empowering you to be both a dreamer and a doer.

Because when dreaming is paired with doing, almost anything becomes possible!
